Useful Care Tips For Custom Timing Belt Pulleys

Posted on

Belt pulleys are necessary to drive motion, whether it's for an electronic device or vehicle. One of the more popular types today is a custom timing belt pulley, which features grooves that keep belts firmly in place. If you plan on using one for a system, here are some care tips to remember.

Treat Corrosion Around Teeth Sections

What makes custom timing pulleys unique is their teeth combinations that are designed to hold belt materials securely. The only way they can do this is if they're in good condition. One possible complication that could affect their condition is corrosion.

If you spot it when inspecting these teeth, you want to remove it before major deformations take place and thus affect how the pulley system works with belt materials. Make sure you account for the material that the teeth are made of so that you can use the appropriate rust-removal products. Then you'll get optimal cleaning without causing damage.

Stay Cognizant of Pulley's Projected Lifespan

Whether your custom timing belt pulley is made out of aluminum or steel, it will have a projected lifespan. You need to keep monitoring this over time to have a better indication of when to replace this custom timing belt pulley.

As it reaches the end of its lifecycle, you may start seeing performance issues with belts or might actually see signs of wear on the pulley. You'll know to take care of these issues and potentially replace the belt pulley once it moves past its lifespan.

Review Performance in Real-Time

There is no substitute for actually seeing your custom timing belt pulleys work in real-time. It gives you all the performance data you need to tell if something is off or if performance levels are where they need to be. As such, schedule in-person performance inspections every couple of months or so.

You can see the custom timing pulleys moving belts for a period of time, making sure movement is smooth and not creating a bunch of noise. If nothing seems to be off, you can leave the belt pulleys alone without making adjustments or repairs.

The more active you are with inspecting and monitoring the performance of your custom timing belt pulleys, the longer they'll ultimately last. Even if you don't specialize in pulleys, there are still a lot of things you can do to keep them working optimally for years.
